15-year-old cold case murder solved thanks to advances in fingerprint technology
Just hours ago, Florida’s Orange County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) announced that a search for a brutal murderer has come to a close and that they can now also close the books on one of their cold case murders. In January 2007, Felix Paguada-Lopez was the victim of a vicious home invasion where he was shot and killed in his Orlando apartment. The case remained open – but unsolved for 15 years.

Just this month, detectives in the OCSO Homicide Cold Case Unit secured an arrest warrant for Cameron Denard in connection with the murder. Detectives were able to link Denard to the murder through the advancement of fingerprint technology.
Denard committed a similar violent robbery 16 days after he murdered Paguada-Lopez in 2007. The gun used to murder Felix was found in Denard’s home when he was arrested in 2007. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison for that robbery, and was scheduled to be released in 2026.
