Pa. dad admits to beating 4-month-old daughter to death because baby would not stop crying
Police in Allegheny County reported that 30-year-old father George Gazzam of Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania, admitted to beating his four-month-old daughter to death because the infant would not stop crying. The heinous murder occurred on Sunday, November 11, when Gazzam originally told first responders that the baby sustained her life-threatening injuries after falling out of bed, according to The New York Post. After performing an autopsy on the baby girl, the Allegheny County Coroner reported that the baby’s injuries “could not have occurred from the infant falling two feet to a carpeted floor.”
According to Coroner Christine James’ autopsy on four-month-old Victoria Gazzam, the baby “suffered bleeding of the brain, a lacerated heart vessel, a lacerated left kidney, a liver contusion, three fractured ribs, multiple bruises to the back and head and a hemorrhage behind the eyes,” according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Mt. Lebanon is a Pittsburgh suburb. After police in Allegheny County confronted the dad with the inconsistencies between his story about how the baby died and the coroner’s report, Gazzam modified his story and “admitted to punching the child several times because she was fussy.”
Gazzam admitted to authorities that because the baby would not stop crying and would not go to sleep, he got angry and punched the infant multiple times with a closed fist. “She stopped breathing and her eyes rolled back in her head,” a criminal complaint in the case quoted Gazzam as saying. ~ per USA Today
Police say that Victoria’s mother was working at the time and that the mourning mom is cooperating with authorities in their investigation. The homicidal father was charged with his daughter’s murder and child endangerment and is currently being held in Allegheny County Jail, according to CBS News.
