Cattle rustler and felony fraud suspect wanted in Laramie, Wyoming, arrested in Vero Beach

On October 27, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office headquartered in Vero Beach, Florida, reported being contacted by the Albany County Sheriff’s Office out of Laramie, Wyoming, regarding a fugitive with active felony warrants believed to be hiding out in Indian River County. 

The fugitive, 49-year-old Scott Eric Smith, was wanted on 31 counts of felony fraud, felony theft, and felony cattle rustling with nationwide extradition.

Indian River County Deputies working in the Sheriff Office’s Special Operations Division began working on the case and located Scott as he was driving along State Road 60 in Vero Beach.

When deputies conducted a traffic stop and pulled Scott over, the fugitive provided a false name and date of birth in an attempt to avoid arrest. While detained, Scott was charged with providing a false name and driving without a valid driver’s license. Giving a false name while detained is a misdemeanor.

A hold was also placed on Scott for his active Albany County Sheriff’s Office warrants.

Scott’s occupation is listed as being a cattle rancher.  His current address is listed as being in the 2000 block of Delmar Street in Vero Beach.

Currently being held without bond, the wanted cattle rustler and  felony fraud suspect is scheduled for a court appearance in Indian River County today.
