Rachel Maddow off the air and in quarantine
Nov.19 Update: Rachel Maddow Returns to Air, Describes Partner’s Virus Bout
Original article from November 7:
MSNBC news anchor and commentator Rachel Maddow will be taking a well-deserved break for the immediate future and will be self-quarantining at her home after coming into close contact with someone who had tested positive for the coronavirus. We want to stress that Rachel has not tested positive for this insidious illness.
Yesterday, Maddow took to Twitter to make the announcement.
In her statement, Maddow did not specify who the “close contact” was with whom she came into contact.
The timing for her self-imposed quarantine takes Maddow out of the loop for the present time during a historic and very busy presidential election. We don’t know exactly when she’ll be returning to “The Rachel Maddow Show” which airs Monday through Friday at 9 p.m. – but quarantine cycles can last anywhere from 10 – 14 days.
MSNBC’s parent company, NBC, confirmed that substitute hosts including Nicolle Wallace, Brian Williams, and Joy Reid would be filling in for Maddow during her quarantine, according to The Washington Examiner.
Maddow isn’t the first TV personality and political news analyst to worry about being exposed to COVID-19. MSN reported that:
Late last month, Fox News president Jay Wallace and four on-air anchors — Bret Baier, Martha MacCallum, Dana Perino and Juan Williams — also quarantined after possible exposure to COVID-19, the New York Times reported. Since then, Baier and MacCallum have appeared together in the network’s studio to anchor Fox News’ election coverage all week.
And yesterday, COVID-19 positive infection cases in the U.S. reached a new daily record high with 128,000 new cases recorded. Yesterday’s numbers are the third straight day in a row of record highs.
Also yesterday it was reported that Mark Meadows, Donald Trump’s White House Chief of Staff and several other White House staffers also tested positive for the corona virus.
“The Rachel Maddow Show” first aired on MSNBC in 2008. Maddow earned her bachelor’s degree in public policy from Stanford University and a doctorate in political science from Oxford University.
