Joe Barton’s ex-wife ‘not surprised’ about congressman’s sexually explicit Twitter photo
Terri Barton, one of the two ex-wives of disgraced Texas politician and Republican Congressman Joe Barton, told reporters that she’s not surprised about her ex-hubby’s explicit sexual photos being released on Twitter recently. Soon after she married Barton, she suspected something was awry with the congressman and filed for divorce on two separate occasions, but backed out both times. The Dallas Morning News quoted Terri Barton as saying “I found a very sexually explicit video of one of his mistresses. Apparently, they had a liaison between 2010-11. That is what I was told.”
The ex said she became suspicious after hearing rumblings about her husband’s infidelities when she would visit him in Washington. Terri Barton said that her ex-husband had multiple affairs during the time the two were married. Joe Barton, 68, released a statement on November 22 apologizing to the public after a graphic nude photo and sext message he had sent to a woman started making the rounds on Twitter.
TMZ reported that the nude photo he sent did include a visible shot of his penis plus a sext message that read “I want u soo bad. Right now. Deep and hard”
Prior to that embarrassing photograph making the rounds on social media, Barton had announced his intentions to run for re-election so that he could once again represent Texas’s 6th congressional district. He’s since had to rethink that decision. On November 30, the congressman announced that he wouldn’t be running for re-election in 2018. Politico reported him as saying that, “There are enough people who lost faith in me that it’s time to step aside.”
Things went from bad to worse for Barton about a week after his nude photo was released on Twitter. Kelly Canon from Virginia told the Star-Telegram that she and Barton used to text back and forth on Facebook regarding mostly political matters. But on at least one occasion he crossed the line with the woman. Canon sent the Star-Telegram copies of texts where Barton asked whether she was “wearing a tank top only..and no panties.” Canon posted an excerpt from that text on her Facebook page and wrote: “Yes. It’s me. Yes, this happened. I want Joe Barton to step down. But more importantly, I know there are others who also need to come forward. There’s no way I’m the only one!”
Terri Barton told The Dallas Morning News that she’s surprised more women haven’t come forward to complain about her ex-husband’s philanderings. She also told WFAA that its “laughable” that Barton strongly criticized President Bill Clinton after news broke of his affair with Monica Lewinsky, “because he was leading this double life.”
