(Updated February 25, 2022)  Please note that the unidentified female remains discovered at Carteret Waterfront Park earlier this month are not those of Catherine Scalzo.  Please see, “Police need help identifying remains of young woman found in Carteret Waterfront Park” for additional information.

(Original article from February 12) Yesterday, the New Jersey State Police issued a plea seeking the public’s help in locating missing 40-year-old Catherine Scalzo of Pittstown, New Jersey.  The Hunterdon County woman has also lived in Eatontown and Long Branch.  Police have described her as a white female, 5’02” tall, 125 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes and carrying a small back backpack.

According to the State Police, Catherine was last seen in the Clinton borough on Saturday, December 27 – a date contested by Catherine’s sister, April Ortiz.  April’s physical description of her sister also slightly differs from that provided by the authorities.

On February 4, The Daily Voice reported April Otiz as saying that Catherine was last seen on November 29,  and described her sister’s height as 5’5” – and that she was last seen in Pittstown and at the Woodlawn Village trailer park in Eatontown. Ortiz also mentioned that her sister “has a history of mental illness.

Catherine’s sister posted the following on her Facebook page:

Catherine wasn’t reported missing until Wednesday, February 2, NJSP Trooper Brandi Slota told DailyVoice.com.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the missing Catherine Scalzo is asked to contact the State Police Perryville Station Detective Bureau at 908-730-7042. Anonymous tips are welcome.
