Brawl aboard Carnival Legend Cruise described as ‘bloodbath cruise from hell’ by passengers
With passengers referring to their ruined cruise vacation as the “cruise from hell,” a Carnival Legend Cruise destined for Melbourne, Australia, had to make an emergency stop in New South Wales where police could take about 23 unruly passengers into custody after being involved in a major brawl on the cruise ship’s main entertainment deck on February 16. The brawl which was captured on cell phone video, was only one of about seven fights that broke out during the cruise, according to International Business Times. The instigators of the brawls appear to all belong to one large family of Australians who had been causing trouble aboard the cruise ship for several days leading up to Friday’s brawl.
Video shows several passengers throwing punches and ending up on the floor just outside one of the ship’s bars where they continued to roll around and fight, kick and wrestle with one another on Friday. Security personnel and officers from the ship can be seen joining in the fight and also kicking some of the passengers on the floor and trying to clear the area of other passengers and stop passengers from taking cell phone videos of the brawl.
Around two dozen Carnival Cruise Line passengers were removed from the Carnival Legend on Friday following a violent brawl that one onlooker described as a “bloodbath.”
At one point in the footage, a female staff member is seen trying to swat at the person filming the fight, presumably in an attempt to stop him/her from filming. ~ per Fox News
One of the passengers traveling on board the Carnival Legend, Jarrah Bolitho, said that he was so concerned for his safety after witnessing all seven brawls on board what was supposed to be an idyllic cruiuise around the South Pacific, that he locked himself inside his cabin. ABC News quoted Bolitho as saying, “One guy was having a smoke right next to the stairs on the top deck. Three of the gang members came down and started attacking him for no reason, one was from behind strangling him, the guy on the left was punching him in the head and the right was just trying to rip his shirt off.”

Jennifer Vandekreeke, general manager for Carnival Cruise Line’s Australian division, apologized to all the affected passengers. A statement released by the cruise line and shared by Fox News reads: “We sincerely apologize to our guests who were impacted by the disruptive behavior of the group removed from the ship by the NSW Police in Eden. We want to reassure all embarking guests today, and in the future, that the safety and security of our guests and crew is our number one priority.”
As of this writing, no charges have been brought against any of the family members involved in the brawl. Police and the cruise line have launched individual investigations. Carnival is offering its Legend passengers a 25 per cent Future Cruise Credit as compensation for their inconvenience on this cruise.
