Rapper Rod Wave charged with strangling ex-girlfriend for talking to other men
Florida rapper Rod Wave, aka Rodarius Green, was arrested in in St. Petersburg, Florida, after being detained at a traffic stop. He was charged with battery by strangulation for choking an ex-girlfriend, “in front of their children because he suspected her of speaking to other men,” according to a May 13 report from The New York Post:
According to St. Petersburg police, Wave, 23, went to his ex-girlfriend’s Osceola County home and angrily accused her of seeing other men. The pair were not a couple at the time, the woman told cops.
He then allegedly attacked her in front of their two children, throttling her until she couldn’t breathe.
Wave left the scene and returned to accuse her of stealing his cell phone and damaged some property before leaving again, authorities said.
The woman told police that she was sleeping when her ex came into her home, jumped on her bed and began choking her to the point where she could not breathe. The alleged attack went down on April 24. The victim called 911 and identified Wave as her attacker.
“He kicked several storage shelves and grabbed photos off the walls before throwing them on the front porch,” according to Rolling Stone.
The New York Daily News shared that by the time police arrived on the scene, they were able to visually confirm that the ex-girlfriend had suffered scratches to her neck. Police also say that she declined medical care, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
Following his arrest, Wave was released after posting $5,000 bail. He has since pleaded not guilty to the battery charge.
