Mother and son team arrested, charged with numerous violations during traffic stop
On August 29, Florida’s Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) reported that a mother and son were arrested yesterday morning near the town of Crestview after the mother fled an attempted traffic stop and the son interfered with a deputy attempting to arrest her.
A deputy spotted 62-year old Venetia Berry driving a truck with the wrong license attached, but Berry refused to pull over when the deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on Highway 85 near Auburn Road around 10:30 a.m.
She ultimately stopped at her home on Cosson Circle, where it appeared she was going to flee on foot. While attempting to take Berry into custody, her son, 38-year old Mark Dandridge, appeared from the yard and approached the deputy in a hostile and aggressive manner, ignoring verbal commands to not interfere with the arrest.
As he continued coming towards the deputy, Dandridge was tased – but the tasing had little effect on him. The son ran and then struggled with the deputy in the front yard before taking off again. Deputies found him hiding nearby a short time later.
Dandridge is charged with resisting arrest with violence. The deputy was not injured in the struggle.
Berry is charged with felony fleeing and eluding, driving with a suspended or revoked license, and driving with a tag not assigned.
