$1.7 million worth of cocaine washes ashore in Vero Beach
On October 18, southeast Florida’s Vero Beach Police Department (VBPD) reported having recently been called to the Atlantic coast to investigate some “suspicious cargo” that had washed ashore. On October 7, police responded to the Spires Condominiums in the 3600 block of Ocean Drive in Vero Beach to check out that suspicious cargo.
Further investigation of the cargo revealed 50 individually wrapped packages of powdered cocaine. Police say that the cocaine was picked up last week by Homeland Security for further investigation and destruction. According to Homeland Security (DHS,) each package of cocaine has a street value of $34, 000. Each of the 50 packages valued at $34,000 amounts to a grand total of $1.7-million dollars’ worth of cocaine washed ashore.
Where the cocaine came from and what led to it being washed up on the shore in Vero Beach is not known. DHS said they’ll continue the investigation and try and find out, in the meantime the cocaine will be destroyed. ~ WQCS
Police also stressed that if you ever find similar types of packages on the beach, “always call 911 to turn it in. You could be charged with a Felony and/ or a Federal Trafficking charge if you’re caught in possession of it.”
