Lisa Loring, the original Wednesday Addams, dead at 64
Earlier today, The Daily Beast shared the sad news that Lisa Loring, who we all remember as the actress who portrayed Wednesday Addams on the original 1960s sitcom “The Addams Family,” has died at the age of 64. That iconic TV show only ran for two seasons on ABC from 1964 – 1966, but proved to be a fan favorite starring Carolyn Jones as Morticia Addams, John Astin as Gomez Addams, Jackie Coogan as Uncle Fester Addams, Ted Cassidy as Lurch, Marie Blake as Grandmamma Addams, Ken Weatherwax as Pugsley Addams, and Lisa Loring as Wednesday.
Lisa’s cause of death was reported to be from a stroke. Her passing was announced on social media by longtime friend Laurie Jacobson who said that after suffering that stroke, Loring slipped into a coma and died on January 28.
It is with great sadness that I report the death of our friend, Lisa Loring. 4 Days ago she suffered a massive stroke brought on by smoking and high blood pressure. She had been on life support for 3 days. Yesterday, her family made the difficult decision to remove it and she passed last night. She is embedded in the tapestry that is pop culture and in our hearts always as Wednesday Addams.
Beautiful, kind, a loving mother, Lisa’s legacy in the world of entertainment is huge. And the legacy for her family and friends — a wealth of humor, affection and love will long play in our memories. RIP, Lisa. Damn, girl…you were a ton of fun. ~ Laurie Jacobson
Born on February 16, 1958, Loring’s first professional gigs were as as child model at the age of three. She began work on TV’s “The Addams Family” at the age of five, when she later told reporters that she “learned to memorize before she could read” in order to say her lines.
Loring is survived by her daughters, Marianne and Vanessa, and her grandchildren, Emiliana and Charles.
