Police identify dead body found as Montgomery County woman missing since December 30
On Sunday, January 29, police in Montgomery County, Maryland, announced that the deceased female remains recovered from the 1,200-acre Upper Paint Branch Stream Valley Park, have been identified as belonging to 20-year-old Keylin Yolibeth Chavez-Dominguez of Rockville, who was reported missing on January 2.
Chavez-Dominguez was last seen by family and friends at her apartment in the 12300 block of Braxfield Court around 6 p.m. on Friday, December 30, 2022. Her missing person’s case is now a homicide investigation; and the Major Crimes Division with the Montgomery County Police Department is now investigating the case.
A witness reported seeing Chavez-Dominguez leaving the Braxfield Court apartment complex with a man on Saturday, December 31. The witness saw her wearing a white sweater, a tan vest, black leggings, and dark-colored boots, police said. ~ MSN
On Saturday, January 28, around 2:01 p.m., officers from the Montgomery County Police Department, Maryland-National Park Police – Montgomery County Division and Maryland Transportation Authority Police, all responded to Upper Paint Branch Stream Valley Park, for the report of a suspicious situation. When officers arrived, they located a female body.Â
The body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, where an autopsy will be conducted to officially determine the cause and manner of death, according to CBS News in Baltimore.
WUSA-9 reports that Chavez-Dominguez emigrated from Honduras in search of a better life, and was working to help support family members back home.
“I am just taken by it,” said Mary Johnson who lives in the Rockville apartment complex where Chavez-Dominguez went missing. Johnson said she saw the woman’s photo but did not realize it was her neighbor.
“I saw it on the TV, and glanced at it, but when I saw your picture I noted that I had seen this face before, walking this way,” she added.
No suspects are in custody. Police say that this is an active and ongoing investigation.
