Shootings and homicides continue to rock Baltimore City

Leading up to today’s meeting to discuss public safety and creating a safer Baltimore, the City had just been rocked by yet another day of shootings and homicides.  The Baltimore Sun tracked 19 murders in the city in May 2023 – and the month isn’t over yet.  Yesterday, May 24, was a particularly bad day for shootings.  See below:

Northeast District Shooting Investigation

On May 24 at approximately 10: 20 p.m., officers responded to the 2000 block of Belair Road to investigate a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers observed a 22-year-old male suffering from a possible gunshot wound to his right arm and a laceration to his chin. Medics responded and transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Northeast District Shooting detectives responded and assumed control over the investigation.

Central District Homicide Investigation

On May 24 at approximately 9: 13 p.m., officers responded to the 500 block of West Franklin Street to investigate a report of a shooting.  Upon arrival, as officers canvassed the area, they located and observed an unidentified male in the 400 block of North Paca Street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his back, chest, and face area.

Medics transported the victim to an area hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Homicide detectives responded and assumed control over this investigation.

Northeast District Shooting Investigation

On May 24 at approximately 6:31 p.m., officers responded to the 3600 block of Elmora Avenue to investigate a call for a shooting.  Upon arrival, officers observed a 17-year-old male suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his left hand. Medics transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment of his injury.

Northeast District Shooting detectives responded and assumed control over this investigation.

Northeast District Homicide Investigation

On May 24 at approximately 5:40 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 5000 block of Belair Road to investigate a check the well-being call.

Upon arrival, officers observed an unresponsive female with signs of trauma. Medics responded and pronounced the victim deceased on the scene.

Homicide detectives responded and assumed control over the investigation.

One day earlier, on May 23 at approximately 11:45 a.m., Baltimore investigators arrested 29-year-old Lance Jamal Hickman who was wanted for shooting a 31-year-old male on May 8 in the 5100 block of Gwynn Oak Avenue.  The victim was transported to an area hospital where he is in critical condition.

On Tuesday, Investigators arrested Hickman while he was in the 4700 block of Gwynn Oak Avenue and transported him to Central Booking Intake Facility, where he was charged with attempted 1st degree murder.
