Former U.S. President Donald J. Trump had already made his mark in history by managing to become the first U.S. president to ever be criminally indicted on multiple felonies for a variety of wrongdoings.  Trump beat that record by leaps and bounds by having been criminally indicted four times in recent months – not to mention a civil case where he owes a woman $5 million after being found guilty of sexually assaulting her in a New York City department store.

See the list of criminal and civil cases he’s facing, per USA Today

On the evening of August 24, 2023, Trump once again entered the annals of history when he became the first U.S. president to ever have a mugshot taken.  While being processed for booking in Georgia’s Fulton County Jail last night, Trump was read his rights and had his mugshot taken. He was also fingerprinted and had his height and weight recorded.  Trump was later released on a $200,000 bond.  The former president was booked as Inmate # P01135809 on charges of racketeering and conspiracy in relation to his effort to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

The Sheriff in Fulton County said that he wanted to treat Trump like any ordinary citizen.

But it was no ordinary citizen whose private jet airplane bearing his last name in capital letters departed New Jersey’s Newark International Airport last night and landed in Atlanta at approximately 7 p.m.  Trump could be seen exiting the aircraft at 7:15 p.m. wearing his customary dark suit and red tie.   He waved to the cameras and got into his vehicle, and along with his 12-car motorcade led by an untold number of motorcycle uniform police officers, made the short drive to jail where he was booked on 13 counts on his latest, and his fourth criminal indictment.

His motorcade arrived at the jail at approximately 7:37 p.m.  At 7:52 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office announced that Trump had been booked and released on bond.   His motorcade left the jail grounds at approximately 7:57 p.m. and arrived back at the Atlanta airport by approximately 8:14 p.m.  As soon as he exited his vehicle, Trump walked toward the waiting TV cameras and once again claimed he was innocent of all charges and did nothing wrong regarding this latest indictment, echoing his earlier claims that he still believes he won the 2020 presidential election, and that the election was stolen and rigged.

Trump statement after being criminally processed in Fulton County

“Thank you very much for being here.  I really believe it’s a very sad day for America and this should have never happened.

If you challenge an election, you should be able to challenge election on when the election was rigged. Election was stolen, election know, you have many people that you’ve been watching over the years do the same thing, many others.   When you have the great freedom to challenge you have to be able to do.

What is taking place here as a travesty of justice. We did nothing wrong. I did nothing wrong and everybody knows that.  I’ve never had such support and that goes with the other ones to what they are doing.   Is election interference or trying to interfere with an election.  There’s never been anything like it in our country before. This is the way of campaigning.

This is one instance, but you have three other instances which is election interference. So I want to thank you for being here. We did nothing wrong at all and we have every right, every single right to challenge an election. So thank you all very much and I’ll see you very soon.”

You can see a video clip of Trump making that statement after being booked, here.

As far as mugshots go, you have to admit that Trump’s is pretty cool, and one that was obviously well rehearsed in front of a mirror before it was taken – and goes to show once again that he’s more a Reality TV actor-celebrity than presidential material.  Per Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie when Trump would not take part in the recent GOP presidential debates:

“He’s a coward. There’s no other conclusion to come to that he’s both afraid of me and he’s afraid of defending his record. And if I had his record, I’d be nervous about showing up, too.”

Christie went on to say at the recent presidential debates that Trump’s conduct, “is beneath the office of president of the United States.”

The Trump Team has Donald’s mugshot already reproduced on T-shirts and coffee mugs that are now available for purchase.  Note that the Sheriff’s Office logo has been removed from the mugshot image on Trump’s presidential merchandise. It’s also ironic that he’s going with “Never Surrender” as his merch caption – even though he formally surrendered to the police just last night.
