On September 2, police in Orlando, Florida, announced the arrest of a 15-year-old shooter that’s being held responsible for killing two and seriously injuring another.  The deceased include a six-year-old child and a 19-year-old teen.

According to police, at approximately 8:20 p.m. on August 29, Orlando Police Department (OPD) Officers responded to 1141 Poppy Avenue in reference to multiple shots fired from a passing vehicle.  Two people were reported to have been shot.

One of the homicide victims, a six-year-old child, was shot while inside her living room and later declared deceased by medical staff.  That young girl has been identified as Ajahliyah Hashim.  The child’s mother was also shot and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

A third gunshot victim arrived at Health Central in Ocoee and was declared deceased by medical staff there.  That second homicide victim has been identified as 19-year-old Isaiyah Wright.

Police released a video of the young shooter in custody.  Nico Brown, 15, appears to be smiling for the camera.

On September 2, the suspected shooter, 15-year-old Nico Brown, was arrested on charges of First Degree Homicide in connection to the shooting deaths of both Ajahliyah Hashim and  Isaiyah Wright.

The mother and daughter were not the intended targets of the shooting, police said, adding it was not known as of Friday how Wright became involved, either.  ~ Click Olando

School Superintendent of Orange County Public Schools, Maria Vazquez, took to social media to release a series of short statements:

My heart goes out to the Eagle’s Nest Elementary community, which has just lost a 6-year-old student to gun violence last night. Ajahliyah Hashim and her mother were victims of a shooting on Tuesday.

Our students should not have to live in a world where their lives are in danger in their own neighborhoods. I cannot imagine the pain Ajahliyah’s family is going through. We can not accept that these tragedies have become all too common in our community.

This will not stop until we all work together to end these appalling tragedies …

Police in Orlando say that their investigation into these shootings is still ongoing and ask that anyone who has information related to these shootings to please contact the Orlando Police Homicide Unit or pass on their information anonymously through Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS.
