Omaha teacher, 45, charged after being caught having sex in her car with student
On Saturday, April 13 at 2:49 a.m., Nebraska’s Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) Uniformed Services Bureau received a 911 call regarding a suspicious vehicle parked on a dead-end road near the 10200 block of N.189th Street in Omaha.
Upon their arrival, deputies observed two individuals in the backseat of a gray 2015 Honda pilot. As Deputies approached, one of those individuals quickly jumped into the driver’s seat and drove the vehicle northbound away from deputies, until the vehicle crashed into a yard approximately two blocks away.
The driver, a teenage male, jumped out of the car after it crashed and ran away on foot – and he wasn’t wearing any clothes while making his escape. The runaway driver was not initially located.
But the deputies did make contact with the second occupant who was still inside the car, an adult female. As they approached the vehicle, Deputies witnessed that she was putting her clothes on in the backseat. The woman was later identified as 45-year-old Erin Ward.
Deputies located an Omaha Public School employee ID in the vehicle and Ward confirmed that she was a substitute teacher at OPS Burke High School and other metropolitan Omaha area schools. Ward also admitted to having sexual intercourse with the driver who had fled from the vehicle. Ward also informed Deputies that the driver was a 17-year-old male student at Burke High School.
The Honda pilot was determined to be owned by Ward and her husband. It was later reported by WKRC that Erin Ward is married to Doug Ward, a high-ranking federal government employee.
By having intercourse with the teen, Ward is also accused of cheating on her husband, a director at the US Department of Defense — with whom she shares three kids, according to social media posts shared by the Gretna couple. ~ The New York Post
At approximately 4 a.m., Deputies located the 17-year-old driver of the car who was still trying to hide out in the nearby Newport Landing neighborhood, wearing only boxers, a T-shirt and socks. The 17-year-old, described by law enforcement officials to be the male victim in this case, was transported to a safe place to receive care, and to be interviewed.
Minor medical attention was provided to both Ward and the 17-year-old the victim resulting from the minor crash and the flight on foot.
The Sheriff’s Office said that this remains an ongoing investigation. DCSO is working in close collaboration with the Douglas County Attorney’s Office and the Omaha Public Schools, who confirmed Ward’s employment. Ward was transported to the Douglas County Department of Corrections and booked for one count of Felony Sexual Assault by School Employee, a Class F2A felony.
