On April 24, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) reported that one of their deputies escaped serious injury on Tuesday when his patrol car was struck head-on by a fleeing suspect wanted on felony arrest warrants.  Alexandre Baud, a 49-year-old convicted felon from San Francisco, is now in the Collier County jail on multiple felonies including aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and fleeing and eluding.

“This could have ended so much worse,” Sheriff Kevin Rambosk said. “This individual put the lives of deputies and citizens at risk with his reckless and deliberate actions, and thankfully nobody was seriously hurt. He will now be held accountable for his criminal actions.”

CCSO was alerted that Baud, who has an active felony warrant out of California, may be in Collier County traveling in a white Subaru Outback with California plates. At approximately 6:15 p.m. deputies located the vehicle, which was unoccupied, parked outside the Naples Target store located at 2324 Pine Ridge Road.

Baud and a female companion returned to the vehicle where deputies were waiting. She fled, while Baud ignored deputies’ lawful commands to exit the vehicle. Instead, Baud pulled out of the parking spot at a high rate of speed and drove past deputies with their emergency lights and sirens activated.

Baud turned around and accelerated toward a deputy in a patrol car and proceeded to violently ram into the patrol car head-on.

Baud was taken into custody immediately after the crash. Fortunately, the deputy was not injured.

Baud was also charged with carrying a concealed weapon after deputies found a pair of brass knuckles inside his vehicle. Baud also faces felony narcotics charges after deputies found fentanyl and methamphetamine in the vehicle.

The female who was with Baud and fled was located by deputies and taken into custody. Amanda Helwig, 38, of Boca Raton, is charged with possession of fentanyl and other narcotics-related charges.
