The Top 10 most anticipated film releases for 2024, a cinematic odyssey
A new study has revealed the most anticipated films for this year, with Inside Out 2 taking the top spot. For each movie, the search terms analyzed included ‘[film] release date’, ‘[film] trailer’, and ‘[film] showtimes’.
Top of the ranking is Inside Out 2 with 1,724,568 average monthly searches, releasing on June 14th. Among the new voices joining the cast is Maya Hawke, who plays Riley’s new anxiety emotion. The first film, released in 2015, grossed $858.8 million worldwide and was the seventh-highest grossing film of that year.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is second, with an average of 1,295,599 monthly searches. The comedy horror is a sequel to the 1988 film Beetlejuice and will be released on September 6th. Directed by Tim Burton, the film features Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder, who reprise their previous roles alongside new cast members such as Jenna Ortega and Justin Theroux.
Gladiator 2 comes third, with 926,042 global average monthly searches. Ridley Scott returns as director, and the cast includes Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, and Joseph Quinn. The sequel is set to release November 22nd.
In fourth is Despicable Me 4, with a monthly average of 655,246 global searches. Starring Steve Carell as Gru, audiences will welcome a new family member, Gru Jr. The fourth instalment of the franchise comes 14 years after the first film and will be released on July 5th.
Kraven the Hunter is fifth, with an average of 568,608 global searches a month. The first non-sequel on the list, this film is based on the Marvel Comics character Sergei Kravinoff, who sets out on a mission to prove he is the greatest hunter in the world. It is due to be released on August 30th.
The Garfield Movie ranks sixth, with 398,549 average monthly searches. Set to release on May 24th, Chris Pratt voices the iconic orange cat.
Borderlands is seventh, accumulating 375,273 average monthly searches. The feature film is based on the video game and will be released on August 9th.
In eighth is Twisters, with a global monthly average of 366,286 searches. This action thriller starring Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones is expected to be released on July 19th.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is ninth, with 259,939 average monthly searches. The sequel, which will be released on December 20th, boasts a star-studded cast that includes Jim Carrey and Idris Elba.
The Crow ranks tenth, with an average of 213,045 monthly searches. Directed by Rupert Sanders, this fantasy film starring Bill Skarsgård will release on August 23rd.
