Update: Pizza delivery driver, unhappy with her tip, breaks into victim’s hotel room and stabbed her repeatedly
(Updated) On Christmas Day 2024, Florida’s Osceola County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) reported that on Sunday, December 22, their deputies responded to reports of a Home Invasion and Stabbing at the Riviera Motel located at 2248 E. Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway in Kissimmee.  After arriving at the scene, deputies located a victim who was stabbed multiple times. The female victim was transported to the hospital and is currently in stable condition.
Detectives from the Violent Crimes Unit identified Brianna Alvelo as a suspect in this case. It was discovered that the victim had ordered pizza from a local restaurant earlier in the evening, and Alvelo became upset about the tip she had received. Alvelo later returned to the victim’s motel room with an unknown male suspect, who was armed with a firearm, and forced their way into the room. Alvelo, who was armed with a knife, began attacking one of the victims. The victim was stabbed multiple times, and items were taken from within the room. ~ OCSO
The victim, identified as Melinda Irizarry, had recently discovered that she was two weeks pregnant – before she was stabbed 14 times by Alvelo, according to ABC News.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for the offenses of Home Invasion with a firearm, Attempted Murder, Kidnapping, and Aggravated Assault and arrested the 22-year-old Alvelo on Monday, December 23. She was booked into the Osceola County Jail and has no bond. According to the Sheriff’s Office, this was an isolated incident at this address, and the matter remains under investigation.
The male suspect that accompanied Alvelo has not yet been identified. The amount of the tip that Alvelo received for the $33.10 pizza delivery was only $2 – but there were extenuating circumstances surrounding that relatively paltry sum.
Initially, the victim handed the delivery driver (Alvelo) a $50 bill and requested change, however, to which she was told it was store policy not to provide change, according to ABC News. After getting smaller bills to fulfill the order, Irizarry ended up giving the driver a $2 tip. After the incident, Irizarry told deputies the driver “rolled her eyes and walked away without saying anything.”
It wasn’t too much later when Alvelo returned to the victim’s hotel room armed with a knife, attacked the victim, and stabbed her 14 times.
Irizarry has since undergone emergency surgery for a ruptured lung, and suffered stab wounds to her chest, arms, legs and abdomen. She is currently in stable condition, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.
