Innocent bystander dies from gunman’s bullet at Orlando’s Magic Mall

On April 6, at approximately 2:19 a.m., police in Orlando, Florida, responded to a reported shooting in the parking lot of the Magic Mall. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim, Joseph U. Phillips, suffering from a gunshot wound. The Orlando Fire Department responded and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.

The Orlando Police Department said it responded to a reported shooting at 2155 West Colonial Drive around 2:19 a.m.  Upon arrival, police found the victim, Joseph U. Phillips, suffering from a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.  ~ WFLA

A thorough investigation revealed that Phillips had been a patron at D’Junction Island Bar and Restaurant and had stepped outside just as a group in the parking lot became involved in an argument. During the altercation, the suspect produced a firearm and attempted to shoot another individual involved in the dispute. Instead, Phillips was struck by that stray bullet.

Orlando Police Department detectives identified the suspect as Keishawn A. Richards. He was taken into custody without incident at his residence by the OPD SWAT team. Richards has been charged with Manslaughter with a Weapon. No additional suspects are outstanding.
