Three dead, one injured in Boca Raton small plane crash
On the morning of Friday, April 11, at approximately 10:13 a.m., South Florida’s Boca Raton Airport Authority alerted Boca Raton Police and Boca Raton Fire Rescue to a Cessna 310 that was having trouble maintaining control, not far from the Boca Raton Airport. The aircraft had recently departed from Boca Raton Airport and was circling the area.
A short time later, the aircraft crashed along Military Trail, near the Glades Road overpass, causing a fire upon impact. A 2017 Toyota Prius, traveling northbound on Military Trail, lost control amidst the fire and crashed into a tree.

Boca Raton Fire Rescue determined the three passengers on the Cessna 310 did not survive. The single occupant of the Toyota that crashed into the tree sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The Cessna crashed just west of Interstate 95 and east of Town Center at Boca Raton.
“The aircraft apparently had some mechanical issues and went down here on Military Trail,” Boca Raton Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Michael LaSalle said during a news conference. “Also there was a car on the ground.” ~ UPI
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) responded to the scene and is investigating the crash. Road closures along North Military Trail are expected to remain in place through the weekend. Boca Raton Police will provide an update when the roadway reopens.
As a result of the plane crash and fire, multiple road closures took effect in the area, including:
- Military Trail from Butts Rd and NW 19th Street
- I-95 ramps to westbound Glades Rd
- 2 lanes on I-95 southbound near Glades Rd
- Glades Rd from Renaissance Way to Airport Rd east & westbound
Yesterday afternoon, police advised that the I-95 overpass at Glades Rd. had opened eastbound and westbound – but N. Military Trail was still closed between NW 19th St. and Butts Rd. Police asked everyone to continue to avoid the area.
