Hernando Police Officer arrested and charged with child neglect

Florida – A 28-year-old Hernando Police Department officer has been arrested on a charge involving the alleged neglect or delinquency of a child, prompting the department to place her on administrative leave while the criminal case proceeds.
Chandler Moss-Hernandez was arrested Friday by deputies with the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office after that agency contacted the Hernando Police Department regarding an investigation involving one of its officers. Authorities have not publicly disclosed what allegedly occurred, when the incident took place, or whether the allegations have any connection to Moss-Hernandez’s police duties.
According to court records, Moss-Hernandez faces one count of contributing to the delinquency or neglect of a child. She was booked into the DeSoto County Jail and released several hours later after posting a $1,500 bond.
Her next court appearance is scheduled for November 20, 2026.
The Hernando Police Department confirmed the arrest and said Moss-Hernandez will remain on administrative leave pending the outcome of the case. The department has not indicated whether the leave is paid or unpaid.
The involvement of an outside law enforcement agency means the arrest was handled by the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office rather than Moss-Hernandez’s own department. Additional information about the allegations could emerge as the investigation and court proceedings continue.
For now, authorities have released few details about the case, and no determination of guilt has been made.
Moss-Hernandez is presumed innocent unless and until she is proven guilty in court.
