MILWAUKEE, Wis. — October 16, 2026 — The Milwaukee Brewers are headed to the World Series for the first time in 44 years after completing a stunning four-game sweep of the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers with a 6-4 victory Thursday night at Dodger Stadium.

Milwaukee overcame an early four-run deficit in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series (NLCS), showcasing the resilience, timely hitting and dominant bullpen work that have defined its remarkable season.

The decisive moment came in the sixth inning when Garrett Mitchell launched a 409-foot solo home run to center field, breaking a 4-4 tie and giving the Brewers a lead they would not surrender. David Hamilton added a critical insurance run with a solo homer in the ninth, while reliever Aaron Ashby shut down the Dodgers’ late threats to secure the victory.

The comeback was particularly impressive after Los Angeles jumped ahead 4-0 in the second inning, highlighted by Shohei Ohtani’s three-run homer. But Milwaukee gradually chipped away at the deficit, tying the game in the fifth through timely hits, walks and aggressive baserunning before taking control.

The Brewers’ bullpen then delivered under pressure, repeatedly escaping dangerous situations to silence the Dodgers’ offense and end Los Angeles’ bid for an unprecedented third consecutive World Series title.

A Historic Reversal of Fortune:  The victory completes a remarkable turnaround for Milwaukee. Last year, the Dodgers swept the Brewers out of the NLCS on their way to another championship. This time, Milwaukee returned the favor, becoming the first team in major league postseason history to sweep an opponent that had swept it in the previous postseason.

First baseman Jake Bauers, whose clutch performances earned him NLCS Most Valuable Player honors, helped lead the Brewers’ charge. Manager Pat Murphy praised his club’s determination, emphasizing the team’s togetherness and refusal to back down against baseball’s established powerhouse.

Milwaukee finished the regular season with a franchise-record 103 victories, the best record in the major leagues, and has carried that momentum into October. The team also captured its first National League pennant; when the Brewers reached the World Series in 1982, they were still members of the American League.

That lone previous appearance ended in a seven-game defeat against the St. Louis Cardinals. Now, more than four decades later, the franchise has another opportunity to claim its first world championship.

World Series Comes Home to Milwaukee:  The Brewers will host the opening game of the World Series on October 23 at American Family Field, facing either the Cleveland Guardians or Tampa Bay Rays, depending on the outcome of the American League Championship Series.

For Milwaukee and baseball fans throughout Wisconsin, the long-awaited return to the Fall Classic represents more than a postseason achievement. It is the culmination of years of rebuilding, sustained competitiveness and belief that the franchise could eventually reach baseball’s biggest stage again.

The Brewers now stand four victories away from a championship that has eluded the organization throughout its history. After conquering the defending champions on their home field, Milwaukee has established itself as a formidable contender.

The Dodgers’ season is over, but the Brewers’ story is still unfolding. After 44 years of waiting, Milwaukee finally has another chance to bring a World Series title home.
