‘Game of Thrones’ actor Kit Harington in rehab for stress and alcohol use
Kit Harington, the 32-year-old English born actor who rose to fame during his eight-season-run playing the Jon Snow character on HBO’s hugely popular “Game of Thrones,” has checked himself into an exclusive, $120,000 a month, mental health and wellness facility in Connecticut. The highly anticipated “Game of Thrones” finale aired on May 19 after 73 episodes. Reportedly, Harington entered the rehab facility shortly before the show’s finale aired, according to The Los Angeles Times.
Harington is said to be suffering from exhaustion following the conclusion of his show which “really hit him hard,” and is getting help for stress-related and alcohol use issues, according to Page Six. He entered the Privé-Swissboutique mental health facility several weeks before the “Games of Thrones” finale.
For almost a month now, he’s “been undergoing psychological coaching, practicing mindful meditation and cognitive behavioral therapy to combat stress and deal with negative emotions.”
A personal rep for Harington told The Los Angeles Times yesterday that “Kit has decided to utilize this break in his schedule as an opportunity to spend some time at a wellness retreat to work on some personal issues.”
The facility’s website notes: “Each retreat is offered to only three clients at a time and includes all one-to-one services with ultra-private luxury accommodations. Our clients are successful individuals who have become derailed by severe depression, anxiety, panic, insomnia, trauma, bipolar, PTSD, addiction/chemical dependency and other mental health challenges.”
“He realized, ‘This is it — this is the end,’” a friend of the actor told Page Six, noting that the end of the HBO series hit Harington hard. “[I]t was something they had all worked so hard on for so many years. He had a moment of, what next?”
Just how hard the ending of “Game of Thrones” affected the actor is evident in the now viral video showing Harrington breaking down in tears while reading the script of the show’s final episode.
HollywoodLife reported that a resident near the facility has seen Harington and was quoted as saying that, “Kit looks really good and appears to be very focused on his health and wellness. I have personally seen him out in the community many times at meetings. I think it’s wonderful that he is taking time to take care of himself – more people should.”
Ace News Today wishes Harington only the very best.
