Scam alert for Indian River County
On July 18, Florida’s Indian River County Sheriff’s Office issued
a statement saying that they are alerting the public regarding a scam that has
resurfaced in Indian River County.
Someone using the name of Sgt. David Jenkins purporting to be from the Indian
River County Sheriff’s Office initiated a phone call to a county citizen and
told them that they failed to report for jury duty.
This was an attempt to gain funds from the citizen. It should be noted that the caller spoofed the sheriff’s office’s telephone number making it appear to be a legitimate call.
The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind everyone that they will never call anyone and ask for money to resolve any type of issue.
Should you receive such a call, please report it at the following link:Â www.identitytheft.gov, after you click on “Get Started” click on “Something Else” then click on “File a complaint about a scam or fraud”.
