Florida mom who shot and killed her young daughter and stepfather arrested and charged
On June 24 around 10:30 a.m., the Port St. Lucie Police Department, in conjunction with the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Department and the U.S. Marshall Task Force, located murder suspect and fugitive Alyssa Torres at a residence in the 7300 block of S Indian River Drive in Port St. Lucie. Torres did not put up a struggle and was arrested at that time without incident. Accused of shooting and killing her seven-year-old daughter and 54-year-old stepfather, Torres was charged with two counts of murder and one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

The battery charge is a result of Torres injuring her mother, 53-year-old Marisol Rivera. Police want to make clear that the murder suspect’s mother was not shot along with Torres’ stepdad and daughter. Police said that Torres appears to have acted alone and there are no remaining suspects at large.
At the time of Torres’ arrest, police say that she readily admitted to the killings. Following her arrest on S Indian River Drive yesterday, a Ruger 380 LCP firearm was recovered from Torres’ vehicle and placed into evidence.
Torres’ mother is hospitalized in stable condition. She identified her daughter as the shooter. Yesterday, police said that Torres’ daughter was eight years old and that Torres was 28; family members later informed police that the child, identified as Amarilyss Martinez, was seven years old, according to CNN. Torres’ age turned out to be 29, not 28.
The stepfather that Torres shot and killed has been identified as 54-year-old Felix Rivera.
The St. Lucie County School District released a statement regarding the loss of one of their beloved students:
“The St. Lucie Public Schools is saddened to hear about the tragic and unfortunate passing of our student, Amarilyss Martinez. Amarilyss was a 2nd grade student in our district. Such times are difficult for all of us; however, we will support one another during this time of grief.”
Police still have no motive for Torres’ actions but again stated that she was being cooperative, and that a motive would hopefully be forthcoming, according to WPTV.
Following her arrest yesterday, Torres was transported to the St Lucie County Jail and was booked and charged before 5:00 p.m.
