Yesterday, deputies with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office (IRCSO) reported that overnight on the evening of August 2, they responded to an alarm call at the BP Gas station located at 4315 20th Street. Upon arrival, deputies observed a broken front window to the business. It was clear that a burglary had just occurred with approximately $3,000 worth of cigars and vaping items stolen from the store.

Indian River County Sheriff’s Office helicopter Hawk, K-9, and Crime Scene responded. Three juveniles were apprehended a short time later in possession of numerous stolen cigars, wine, and vaping devices.

Deputies arrested Jaiden Hunt, 15, Jonathan Davis, 15, and Jamyra Canty, 13, for burglary.

All three juveniles had been reported as runaways from a local children’s home. Detective Farless responded and obtained confessions from all three juveniles. Davis admitted to burglarizing the same store earlier this week in the same manner and was charged with an additional count of burglary.

Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar stated, “We are proud of the efforts of our entire team last night. Thanks to the work of patrol, dispatch, aviation, investigations, and K-9, we have three burglars in custody today. We also want to thank our partners at the Vero Beach Police Department for their assistance. It is devastating to have these young juveniles committing such serious crimes in our community. We will continue to work with our community partners to keep juveniles off the streets.”

That intersection of 45th Avenue and 20th Street (S.R. 60) where the BP station is located is a very busy intersection with businesses located in all directions.  This past weekend the intersection was shut down for several hours due to a lightning strike

And that same BP station made headlines last January when an elderly man was attacked by two masked assailants who punched the man in the face, pistol-whipped him, and ran over him with his own pickup truck after they carjacked it. That man was left with a broken jaw, two cracked ribs and a broken hip, according to WPBF.  A 15-year-old, Miguel Angel Ayala, of Vero Beach, was arrested back in March and charged with carjacking with a deadly weapon and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon in that incident.
