On November 3, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office released an urgent request seeking the public’s help to help find and capture two men who escaped the Monterey County Adult Detention Facility in Salinas, California, early Sunday morning.

21-year old Santos Samuel Fonseca and 20-year old Jonathan Salazar where both awaiting trial on unrelated murder charges along with numerous other felony charges.

Fonseca is 5’7” and 150lbs. Salazar is 5’7 and 170lbs. Both are Hispanic with black hair and brown eyes. Both have been in custody since 2018.

CBS News reported today that both of the escapees are charged with gang-related murders.  CBS Monterey affiliate KION-TV quoted Monterey County Undersheriff John Mineau as saying, “During the search we found some of their inmate clothing just outside of the perimeter. We know that they did make it outside of the jail.”

He added, “These guys were in jail for murder, so we need to consider them threats to the public.”

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office reported that there is an investigation already being conducted to determine their means of escape.  Currently however, they aren’t providing any further details on their manner of escape.

“Our focus, and resources, are dedicated to locating and returning Fonseca and Salazar to custody.”

Officials are asking the public to take a good look at the escapee’s photos. If you see these men, call 911 immediately. Do not approach them as they are considered dangerous.

There is a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the capture of these individuals.
