Pennsylvania funeral director busted abusing corpses and selling weed
Angeliegha Stewart, 27, a funeral director employed with Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, is accused of using her cell phone to take photos of corpses in an effort to “gross out” her friends and family members, according to a September 25 report from CBS News. As of this writing, investigators are still trying to identify the corpses from Stewart’s photos. To make matters worse for the funeral director, while police were searching her cell phone, they discovered texts and images revolving around drug deals with which Stewart was involved.
In addition to being charged with abusing a corpse, criminally using a communication facility (cellphone,) disorderly conduct and harassment, the funeral director was also charged with drug possession with intent to deliver and drug paraphernalia possession, according to The Pocono Record. Stewart told the cops that she showed her boyfriend a particularly gross image of a corpse just because she wanted to “gross him out.” The pictures recovered from her cell phone included images of corpses in caskets, out of caskets, plus pics taken during an organ harvesting procedure and images of corpses in various stages of decomposition.
Police found four photos showing a person during the harvesting process of organ donation, and four other photos of a decomposed corpse. In addition, they found six photos of unidentified dead people and 13 photos of the dead in caskets. ~ per The Morning Call
Police first investigated Stewart after someone alerted them to the fact that she was showing pictures of corpses to her family and friends. Police obtained a search warrant and went to her funeral home last Thursday where they found Stewart and searched her cell phone to find not only the alarming pictures she’d taken of the corpses, but also the information related to her marijuana deals. That information included pictures of marijuana she was dealing, which initiated another search warrant being obtained for her home.
According to an excerpt of the criminal complaint shared by The Morning Call, “Detectives in Monroe County began investigating Stewart last month after they received information from confidential sources that Stewart flaunted photos of the dead to friends and family and also sold marijuana to make extra money.” After being charged, Stewart was released on her own recognizance and will have her district court hearing in the near future.
