Tyler East: Fugitive MMA fighter arrested in New Mexico – 4/7/21 Update
(Updated April 7, 2021) – MMA fighter Tyler East shot dead in New Mexico during domestic violence dispute
(Original article from January 2020) Mixed Martial Arts fighter, 28-year-old Tyler East, has been on the run from the police in Bosque Farms, New Mexico, since November 2019. Officials there were offering a $1,000 reward and had an arrest warrant out for East. Police caught up with the fighter once during a traffic stop; but he resisted arrest and managed to elude police and get away.
That traffic stop went down in December 2019 when police said that, “East slapped an officer’s hand after the officer spotted him during a traffic stop,” according to the Associated Press.
A criminal complaint filed against him stipulates that the MMA fighter stole $3,000 from his grandfather’s bank account – after his grandfather had passed away. East was charged with felony fraud in that incident. And according to KRGE in Albuquerque, East was no stranger to the Bosque Farms Police Department (BFPD).
East has a history of run-ins with the law. Back in 2012, he beat up his girlfriend and has repeatedly failed to comply with probation. ~ KRGE
But on January 16, BFPD received a tip regarding East’s whereabouts. Police wrote on their Facebook page, “Huge thank you to Valencia County State Police Lt. Smith, and Officer Urbano for apprehending Mr. East after he tried to flee. Great Work!!”
In 2011, when East was only 20 years old, he was declared Heavyweight Champ of the MMA’s, King of the Cage promotion.
East is looking at charges of fraud, battery of a peace officer and evading arrest.
