A 27-year-old father from the Williamsbridge section of the Bronx in New York City, confessed to officers with the NYPD that he smothered his newborn son to death by holding a pillow over the baby’s face.  The confession came from bad father Teshawn Watkins after his heinous act was captured on video.

A baby camera captured the horrifying death of a 1-month-old Bronx boy who was smothered by his father with a pillow, the Daily News has learned.

The damning evidence forced Teshawn Watkins to admit to cops that he suffocated his newborn son, Kaseem, at the family’s Holland Ave. home near E. 215th St. in Williamsbridge, sources said.

When police arrived at the Watkins residence on Wednesday, January 29, the newborn was found to be unresponsive and lying in his bassinet.  Baby Kaseem was rushed to the nearby Montefiore North Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.  NBC News in New York reported that the father was charged with murder, manslaughter, reckless endangerment and act in a manner injurious to a child.

The New York Post reported sources as saying that the family has had a history with the city’s Administration for Children’s Services.

Two sons, now ages 3 and 4, were temporarily taken away from the family by ACS when they were just a few months old, but the agency gave the boys back to the family, sources have told The Post.

“There appears to be some evidence that the father has been physical with the children,” a source told The Post before the charges were filed.

Watkins reportedly placed the newborn, “face down on the bed and put pillows on top of him to stop his crying,” according to ABC News.  The mother told police that she had fed Kaseem and put him back to bed around 2am Wednesday when the child had seemed fine.

In addition to one-month-old Kaseem, Watkins has two other male children ages three and four.  Several pictures of young children are evident on Watkins’ Facebook page.  He refers to the children as his “kings.”

Regarding his children’s history with ACS, officials said that Watkins and his wife had their kids taken away briefly while investigating injuries to his two-year-old, injuries which included a broken leg, bite marks and bruises.

In a statement, ACS Spokesperson Chanel Caraway said, “Our top priority is protecting the safety and well-being of all children in New York City. We are investigating this case with the NYPD.”
