Sunday’s Daytona 500, held at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida, had to be postponed until Monday, February 17 on account of rain.  Donald Trump attended the race on Sunday and served as the race’s Grand Marshall, kicking the race off with those iconic words, “Gentlemen, Start Your Engines.”

But, Monday’s Daytona 500 came to a frightening and dramatic conclusion when during the final lap, NASCAR driver Ryan Newman’s car got bumped during an all-out race to the finish line.

Newman lost control of his No. 6 Ford and slammed into the wall, before becoming airborne.

As Newman’s car descended, the car No. 32 car of Corey LaJoie hit the driver’s side of Newman’s car at top speed, sending it airborne again and into multiple rolls.

Following his car flying through the air the second time, it hit the ground and slid on its roof with sparks flying.  The car, with the 42-year-old Newman still inside, burst into flames and came to a stop upside-down. After being extricated from his car by ground crews, Newman was transported to Halifax Medical Center for further treatment and evaluation.

Following that fiery crash, Newman was said to be, “in serious but non-life-threatening condition,” according to ABC News.

Steve O’Donnell, NASCAR executive vice president, said: “Ryan Newman is being treated at Halifax Medical Center. His is in serious condition, but doctors have indicated his injuries are not life threatening,” O’Donnell said.

“We appreciate your thoughts and prayers and ask that you respect the privacy of Ryan and his family during this time.”

Late in the evening of February 17, Daytona 500 Grand Marshall Donald Trump tweeted:
