On the evening of July 7, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office in Vero Beach, Florida, reported that on the 4th of July, deputies responded to a shots fired call in the nearby Whispering Palms neighborhood.  Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the caller and located a bullet hole in the back door of their residence. Deputies then found the bullet that made that hole inside the residence.

Deputies on the scene continued investigating the wayward gunshot and found a hole in the fence in the backyard of the residence and eventually made their way to the house directly behind the house that was struck by the gunfire.

At that residence, deputies made contact with Brandy Scofield who stated she was buying a gun and “wanted to let off a few shots” to make sure the gun worked.

The 21-year-old shooter voluntarily informed the deputies that she had set up a cinder block with a glass bottle on top of it to serve as a shooting target; but she missed the bottle and shot through the fence – with that bullet eventually striking the house behind her.

When they went to her bedroom, deputies found a .40 caliber Glock and a 9mm Smith & Wesson under the couch in her room, according to the sheriff’s office. The marijuana, which came to a total weight of 20.9 grams, was in her closet. ~ WTVX

Two firearms were located and seized in the Scofield residence along with a bag of marijuana.

The bad shooter was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Discharging firearm in public;
  • Shoot or throw a deadly missile; and
  • Possession marijuana over 20 grams

Deputies ended up arresting Scofield and transporting her to the Indian River County Jail.  She was released after posting an $8,000 bond.
