Actor Gary Busey charged with sex crimes following alleged criminal sexual contact at Monster-Mania Con

On August 20, New Jersey’s Cherry Hill Police Department released word that a California man was facing several sex offense charges stemming from incidents occurring at the annual Monster Mania Convention hosted by the Doubletree Hotel in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. That California man turned out to be well-known and often troubled actor Gary Busey.

During the weekend of the horror convention, which took place from August 12 -14, police responded to the Doubletree Hotel, 2349 West Route 70, for the report of a sex offense.

On August 19 as a result of their investigation, Cherry Hill Police Detectives charged the 78-year-old Busey, who currently resides in Malibu, with the following offenses:

2 counts of Criminal Sexual Contact – 4th Degree
1 count of Criminal Attempt/ Criminal Sexual Contact – 4th Degree
1 count of Harassment – Disorderly Persons Offense

“It was about contact. It was about touching,” Cherry Hill Police Lt. Robert Scheunemann told the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Busey received positive reviews in the early days of his acting career starring in films like Lethal Weapon and Point Break and receiving an Academy Award for his starring role in 1978’s The Buddy Holly Story. But he had a near-fatal motorcycle accident in 1988 that left him with brain damage. After that, he made headlines for a string of encounters with law enforcement, including an arrest on drug charges in 1995 and allegations of spousal abuse in 2001, according to The Daily Beast.
