Actress Kim Delaney released from jail, won’t be charged with assault with a deadly weapon

Los Angeles prosecutors have declined to file charges against Kim Delaney, the Emmy-winning actress known for her role in “NYPD Blue,” after she was arrested for felony assault on Saturday, March 29. The incident involved her husband, James Morgan, who was also arrested on suspicion of spousal battery. Delaney was released from custody on Tuesday, April 1, at 10:45 a.m. by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, where she had been held since her arrest, according to records obtained by Fox News Digital.
The story began on March 29 when authorities responded to a domestic disturbance at Delaney’s home in Marina del Rey, where the couple had reportedly been engaged in a days-long argument that allegedly turned physical. Morgan claimed Delaney had tried to hit him with her car, while Delaney called the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD) when Morgan returned to the residence.
At the time of arrest, Morgan was taken in by the LASD for misdemeanor domestic violence, while the Gersh-repped Delaney was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, according to department documents. All indications from law enforcement sources, as other outlets have reported, is that the deadly weapon was a car. ~ Deadline
Morgan was released on $20,000 bond the same day, while Delaney was held until Tuesday.
Ultimately, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office cited “insufficient evidence” in the case and declined to pursue charges against either party.
This latest incident was not Delaney’s only run-in with the law. In 2002, according to ABC-7 Los Angeles, she was arrested on suspicion of DUI, but under a plea deal had her charges reduced and only served probation and paid a small fine. The following year, she sought treatment for alcohol abuse.
In 2005, the “CSI: Miami” star lost custody of her then 15-year-old son after he testified that his mother endangered his life by driving under the influence of alcohol drunk with him in the car, People reported at the time.
Delaney, 63, is perhaps best known for her starring role as Detective Diane Russell on the ABC drama “NYPD Blue,” for which she won a Primetime Emmy Award in 1997. She has also starred in other television shows including “General Hospital,” “Army Wives,” “CSI: Miami” and “All My Children,” according to CBS News Los Angeles.
