An Alabama father has been arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse after authorities allege that – over the course of the last year – he regularly placed one of his young children inside of an electric clothes dryer, secured the door to the dryer in the closed position with a chair, and then powered it up.  The bad dad was identified as 25-year-old Steven Garrett Todhunter of Wilsonville, according to The Cullman Times.

Police in Alabaster tell news outlets the man also sometimes placed the child in a washing machine and threatened to turn it on, saying the water was going to be “very hot.”

Police from Alabaster arrested Todhunter on January 12.  In addition to a charge of aggravated child abuse, he was also charged with felony domestic violence / strangulation, according to Birmingham Real-Time News.  His arrest warrant stated that during the same dates he was abusing the child, “he held a woman against a wall and choked her to the point that she passed out.”

The warrant for his arrest did not stipulate the age of Todhunter’s young victim;  but social media outlets revealed that he is married and the father of a three-year-old. He and his wife have three children, including the three-year-old.

Pictures on his Facebook pages show the children to be alive and well.

The New York Post shared several comments from one of Todhunter’s Facebook pages:

“Sick f—k,” one comment read. “Too bad your fat ass can’t fit inside a dryer.”

Another person threatened to harm Todhunter himself, warning that he was “coming” for him. Yet another warned that Todhunter – if convicted and sent to prison – would be a welcome mark for some inmates behind bars.

“You’ll find out even prisoners don’t like boys who hurt children,” one woman wrote. “You’ll be bubbas lil bit*h before you know it.”

After posting a $20,000 bond, Todhunter was released from the Shelby County Jail. His preliminary court hearing is scheduled for February 6. If convicted on just the aggravated child abuse charge, he could be looking at life behind bars.
