A Broward Sheriff’s Office whodunit case has been solved. The suspect who shot at two fast food employees because the restaurant was closed is in custody.  Albert Ponce, 17, was arrested Sept. 20 on a warrant and has been charged as an adult by The Office of the State Attorney of Broward County.

BSO detectives believe Ponce was the gunman in the July 26 shooting outside a Checkers in Pembroke Park.

The shooting happened just after 4 a.m. at the Checkers at 4000 W. Hallandale Beach Blvd. The business had just closed its doors when a white SUV pulled up to the restaurant with Ponce driving and a female as his passenger.

The couple was looking for something to eat and asked the two employees who were walking out the door if they could get some food. The employees explained that the restaurant was closed.

Not taking no for an answer, the driver pulled out a handgun and fired several shots toward the two men.  ~ BSO

One of the employees was shot in the leg. He was transported to an area hospital where he was treated and released. The other employee was unharmed. The passenger in Ponce’s vehicle is not facing any charges at this time.

Ponce faces two counts of second-degree attempted murder, a charge of firing a gun from a vehicle and one for being a delinquent with a firearm.
