Amber Glenn wins U.S. Figure Skating Championships, again
U.S. figure skater champion, Amber Glenn, defended and retained her title at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships this weekend at the competitions held in Wichita, Kansas. The 5’, 5 1/2” 25-year-old from Plano, Texas, highlighted her win with a dazzling triple axel early in her program. Glenn actually trailed U.S. figure skater Alysa Liu by 5.45 points after their short program. But it was Glenn’s strong free skate that allowed her to overtake Liu and win by the narrow margin of 1.46 points, according to KMUW and NBC Sports.

Glenn’s total score of 216.79 points was enough to secure her the championship, marking her second consecutive national title. Her victory was particularly impressive given that she had been feeling unwell in the weeks leading up to the competition. Glenn’s determination and skill were evident as she executed her routine with precision and grace, ultimately earning her the top spot on the podium, according to USA Today.
“I still don’t believe I won,” Glenn said. “It’s a real shock to me. I wasn’t feeling my absolute best and today, being able to not fully lock in but for the most part get into the zone I needed to be, I’m very proud of my mental fortitude and the progress I’ve made.” ~ The Associated Press
Liu gave a strong performance, but it was a slip on her final spin that cost her the title. Sarah Everhardt claimed the bronze medal with a score of 207.36 points.
