Angels’ third baseman Anthony Rendon fined and suspended following altercation with fan
On April 3, Major League Baseball (MLB) reported that Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon was issued a five-game suspension and an undisclosed monetary fine for his actions involving a fan last Thursday, when his Club played the Oakland Athletics. Michael Hill, Major League Baseball’s Senior Vice President for On-Field Operations, made the announcement.
After Rendon threatened to appeal, negotiations commenced with the MLB Players Association and that five-game suspension got whittled down to a four-game suspension, which had to be served immediately, beginning with the Angels’ road game against the division-rival Seattle Mariners on Monday’s April 3 game, according to ESPN.
Rendon, who was also fined an undisclosed amount, grabbed the fan by the shirt as he was making his way out of the first-base dugout and into the tunnel that leads to the visitors’ clubhouse at RingCentral Coliseum on Thursday night in the aftermath of the Angels’ 2-1 Opening Day loss to the Oakland Athletics. Rendon accused the fan of calling him a “b—-,” then took a swipe that missed his head before walking away. ~ ESPN

Following the altercation Rendon had with the fan, he spoke with the media, saying, “It sucks. My emotions got the best of me. I’m usually pretty good about interacting with fans. Always like to chirp back at them, kind of have fun with it.”
The third baseman went on to say that he and the fan spoke on the phone later in the same day that the incident went down, and they each apologized to one-another. “We both apologized about what had happened. We’re both ready to move forward,” Rendon said.
