Armor wearing, AR-15 toting Florida man arrested after early morning shots fired into moving vehicle
A man from Shalimar, Florida – who was arrested and now looking at multiple felony charges – was wandering through his neighborhood early this morning wearing upper body armor while carrying a semi-automatic rifle and a pistol – and he fired a shot into a neighbor’s moving vehicle.
Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) deputies responded to a 911 call around 4:30 a.m. on the morning of May 4 from a man saying someone had fired a shot at his car as he was driving near the intersection of Fifth Street and Fifth Avenue. The bullet shattered the man’s car window. Fortunately, that driver escaped any serious injuries.
Deputies who arrived at the scene could hear more gunshots in the area. While canvassing the area, they encountered 26-year-old Kyle Chapman, who reached for a pistol while illuminating the deputies with a flashlight. A deputy fired a shot.
Chapman concealed himself behind a vehicle before ultimately complying with commands and being taken into custody. Deputies found an AR-15, a semi-automatic pistol, and several spent shell casings near Chapman’s vehicle. The magazine with the pistol was missing five rounds.
Along with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and firing into a moving vehicle, Chapman was also charged with possession of a bulletproof vest while committing certain offenses and discharging a firearm in public. ABC-3 News reports that Chapman was booked into the Okaloosa County Jail.
