Arrest made in case of man who attacked and raped 81-year-old woman
(April 8, 2025) Earlier this week, Ace News Today reported on a serious case where Florida’s Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) announced that detectives in their Special Victims Unit had sought the public’s assistance in identifying and locating a man who attacked and raped an 81-year-old woman in Lauderdale Lakes. Today, we are pleased to report that an arrest has been made in that horrific crime.
The suspect, 50-year-old John Isom, was arrested by Broward Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit (SVU) investigators on Sunday, April 6, near the 4600 block of West Sunrise Boulevard in Plantation.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 4:26 a.m. on Friday, April 4, BSO deputies responded to a sexual assault call near the intersection of Northwest 50th Avenue and Northwest 34th Street in Lauderdale Lakes. When deputies arrived on scene, they met with the victim, who stated than an unknown male, later identified as Isom, threw her to the ground and sexually assaulted her.
During the violent ordeal, the victim yelled for help, and two individuals ran to investigate. The individuals told detectives when they arrived at the location, they observed Isom on top of the victim. Detectives say Isom then fled the area.
During the course of their investigation, detectives located images of Isom, and those images were released to the public in hopes of identifying and locating the unhoused individual.
On Sunday, SVU investigators canvassed multiple locations before locating and arresting Isom in the city of Plantation. He’s now looking at one count each of sexual battery on a person 18 years of age or older, false imprisonment, and battery on a person 65 years of age or older.
