Arrest made in grisly murder, dismemberment of tech CEO Fahim Saleh
Police in New York City today arrested the personal assistant of 33-year-old murdered tech guru Fahim Saleh, whose remains were discovered in his Lower East Side condo by his sister on Tuesday. The suspected murderer has been identified as 21-year-old Tyrese Devon Haspil, who is expected to be charged with Saleh’s murder and other associated criminal acts.
Police investigating Saleh’s death believe that on Monday, Haspil immobilized Saleh inside his 7th floor NYC apartment with a taser and then stabbed him to death. Police also say that Haspil returned to the scene of the murder on Tuesday with an electric saw and began cutting up the body. He would have finished the gruesome deed but was “forced to flee when Saleh’s sister, who found the body, buzzed up to the apartment,” according to Forbes.
When she entered, she found her brother’s body, decapitated and dismembered in trash bags. An electric saw was still plugged in nearby.
The New York Times shared the NYPD’s best possible motive for the murder:
Detectives believe that the motive for the killing stemmed from Mr. Saleh having discovered that the assistant had stolen tens of thousands of dollars from him, despite the fact that Mr. Saleh had not reported the man and had set up what amounted to a repayment plan for him to return the money, one of the officials said.
ABC News in New York reported sources as saying that the murder suspect was tracked by his credit card, the same credit card used to purchase the electric saw used to dismember Saleh.
Saleh was an entrepreneur who had created several startups. He was the CEO and co-founder of Gokada, a motorcycle delivery service in Nigeria.
