Arrest made in random I-95 shootings that claimed the life of a beloved 23-year-old preschool teacher
It took more than a month, but Florida law enforcement officials caught up with a deadly shooter that went on a fatal rampage on Interstate 95 in South Florida. Three people were shot, and one tragically died.
After an exhaustive search, Florida’s Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested 21-year-old Jahkobi Williams in connection to the shooting murder of a beloved local preschool teacher. The arrest was made Thursday night. The deadly shooting occurred in Fort Lauderdale shortly before 9 p.m. on Sunday, November 27, on I-95 southbound between Sunrise Boulevard and Broward Boulevard with another shooting occurring again on I-95 southbound between Atlantic Boulevard and Sample Road.
On that fateful day in November, a 911 call came in regarding a shooting that occurred on I-95 southbound between the Sunrise Boulevard exit and the Broward Boulevard exit. Florida Highway Patrol and the Fort Lauderdale Police Department responded to the scene. When they arrived, responders found two victims, an adult male and an adult female.
Both had been shot while driving on the interstate. The two victims were transported by Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue to an area hospital with gunshot wounds. Broward Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes and Crime Scene units responded to the scene to investigate.
Their investigation revealed that a newer model white BMW 840i series side-swiped the victims’ Nissan Sentra. At that point, shots were fired by the driver of the BMW. The male victim sustained injuries that were not life threatening; however, the female, 23-year-old Ana Estevez, succumbed to her injuries and died a few days after being shot, according to WPTV.
Detectives reported that the BMW side-swiped the Sentra and that the driver of the BMW, later identified as Williams, started shooting. His shots fatally wounded Estevez and injured Estevez ‘s boyfriend who was the driver of the Sentra.
Estevez worked as a preschool teacher in Broward County while attending college at Florida Atlantic University. She was majoring in early childhood development with the goal of becoming a teacher for students with special needs. NBC News in Miami reports that she is being remembered as a “very loving” individual.
Local 10 News shared: “Ana and her boyfriend Michael had traveled to North Carolina. On the way back home, they were sideswiped by a white BMW. Before being able to pull over, the unknown man opened fire,” Paula Ulerio wrote on a GoFundMe fundraising page.

Following the shootings, the Broward Sheriff’s Office released a sketch of the wanted shooter whose identity was still unknown at that time.
Williams’ third victim, who was shot in a separate incident while driving in a different vehicle, was later identified at a nearby hospital. That third victim was a young girl who sustained injuries that were not life threatening.
The investigation was turned over to BSO’s Homicide Unit. After reviewing evidence and witness statements in the case, detectives were able to zero in on Williams and arrested him in Pembroke Pines.
Williams was booked into the BSO Main Jail where he’s now facing one count of first-degree murder with a firearm and attempted first-degree murder with a firearm. For more on Williams’ arrest, see the video accompanying this article.
