On April 19, Sheriff James Pohlmann of the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office (SBSO) headquartered in Chalmette, Louisiana, announced that an arrest warrant for a California man was issued following an incident that occurred Saturday, April 17, in Chalmette,

Aldon Smith, 31, of the 1700 block of 14th Street in Oakland, California, is wanted in Louisiana for second degree battery.

Coincidentally, Smith had just signed with the Seattle Seahawks as the team’s Defensive End on April 15.  A few days after the signing, on April 17, around 7:30 p.m., Sheriff Pohlmann said that his deputies responded to a call for medical assistance needed in the 2500 block of Paul Drive in Meraux.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they met a male victim who said he was assaulted by an acquaintance of his earlier while outside a business in the 8600 block of West Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette.

During the course of the investigation, detectives with the Criminal Investigations Bureau identified the suspect as Smith.

Smith was a former No. 7 overall pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 2011.  Smith had been suspended multiple times by the NFL for drug-related offenses and personal conduct policy violations. The former first-team All-Pro was out of the league from 2016 to 2019. Smith was reinstated by the league in 2020 and signed a one-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys. The DE started all 16 games and recorded five sacks, his most since 2013. ~ NFL

Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Smith is asked to call the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office at (504) 271-2501 or the Criminal Investigations Bureau’s tip hotline, (504) 271-TIPS or 8477.  The investigation is ongoing.
