Atlanta Braves’ outfielder Marcell Ozuna arrested on domestic violence charges
Earlier this morning, police in Sandy Springs, Georgia, reported that they had arrested 30-year-old Atlanta Braves outfielder Marcell Ozuna Idelfonso on charges of domestic violence. The arrest went down yesterday in the Atlanta suburb. After receiving a call and arriving on the scene, police witnessed Ozuna assaulting a woman, “and saw him grabbing a woman by the neck and throwing her against a wall,” according to KESQ, News Channel 3.
Sandy Springs Police received the 911 call on Saturday at 12:26 p.m. regarding an assault in progress. When officers arrived at the home, they heard screaming coming from inside and noticed the front door wide open. The responding officers entered the residence through the front door and saw Ozuna grabbing the female victim by her neck and throwing her against a wall. The victim was later identified as Ozuna’s wife.

Officers were able to immediately take the suspect, later identified as Ozuna Idelfonso, into custody without further incident.
In addition to the strangulation attempts, police reported that Ozuna also struck his wife with his arm which has a cast from a previous injury. Earlier this week, Ozuna went on the Braves’ 10-day injured list after fracturing two fingers on his left hand. The injury occurred during Tuesday night’s game against the Boston Red Sox.
Following his arrest, Ozuna was charged with Aggravated Assault by Strangulation under the Domestic Violence Act, and Battery under the Domestic Violence Act. Although the victim did display visible injuries, she was not transported to the hospital. Ozuna was booked into the Fulton County Jail and is currently awaiting prosecution.
The Braves released a statement late on Saturday saying that the organization was aware of Ozuna’s arrest and that the MLB Commissioner’s Office has been notified.
“The Braves fully support Major League Baseball’s policy on domestic violence which stresses to the fullest that our society cannot and will not tolerate domestic violence in any form. Until the investigation is completed, we will have no further comment and all inquiries into the matter should be referred to the Office of the Commissioner.”
