Original article from 11/07/2020: Yesterday, detectives in Volusia County, Florida, doubled down in their search for a murder suspect and offered a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of 18-year-old Kamari Elliott. Back on October 30, the Volusia Sheriff’s Office began asking the public to help them locate the Daytona Beach, Florida man who is linked to two recent drive-by shootings that stemmed from a homicide in DeLand.
Warrants were issued for Kamari Elliott for his part in the two shooting incidents. Elliott should be considered armed and dangerous.
Early on September 28, the homicide was reported after a man’s body was found near South Delaware Avenue and Green Street, near Spring Hill Park.
Hours later and just a block away from the crime scene, a drive-by shooting occurred in the 1000 block of South Clara Avenue. Two residents at separate homes were shot after witnesses reported seeing a van carrying four to five males and shots being fired from the van. Neither victim suffered life-threatening injuries.
That same day, two males were shot in the 1200 block of South Delaware Avenue. Deputies were called to the scene at 8:25 p.m. The victims, age 17 and 46, went by private vehicles to an area hospital. Neither victim’s injuries are considered life-threatening.
Detectives have linked Elliott to both drive-by shootings.
“We think he and a group of people from Daytona Beach came over here on two separate occasions and we believe, opened up on innocent people,” Sheriff Mike Chitwood said. “All this we believe is connected to the murder. So we’re trying to round up all the players.” ~ Sheriff Mike Chitwood
On November 6, Sheriff Chitwood reported that Elliot’s updated charges now include: attempted first-degree murder (2 counts), robbery, accessory after the fact to a first-degree felony, and battery.
The Sheriff’s Office is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Kamari Elliott.
“Turn yourself in now, or wait for us to pay you a surprise visit, but you’re going to jail either way,” Sheriff Chitwood said Friday. “To anyone helping Kamari play hide and seek with us, now is a good time to come forward and put some money in your pocket instead of harboring a fugitive.”
Anyone with information about his whereabouts is urged to contact the Volusia Sheriff’s Office Major Case Unit at 386-254-1537.
Tipsters can also call the Sheriff Office’s non-emergency dispatch number: 386-248-1777.
