Babysitting boyfriend charged with murdering girlfriend’s 2-year-old son
Yesterday, the Baltimore County Police reported that David Marvin Haas Jr., 34, has been arrested and charged in the death of his girlfriend’s two-year-old son.
Police were called to the 900 block of Garden Drive in Essex, Maryland, on June 29 for a report of a cardiac arrest after Haas called 9-1-1 just before 9 p.m. Haas was babysitting the child, his girlfriend’s son, when the boy stopped breathing.
Haas was also babysitting his girlfriend’s five-year-old daughter.
The child was transported to MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased about 30 minutes after his arrival there. The little boy was identified as Damien Landrum.
WBAL-TV reported that hospital investigators noticed Damien had multiple bruises on his face, arm, stomach and back. Due to his age and injuries, the Baltimore County Police Homicide Unit was asked to investigate.
According to the probable cause statement and information shared by WBAL, Haas’ story to police was that the little boy had “pooped himself,” and that Haas put Damien in the shower. Haas told police that he left the little boy alone for 4-5 minutes. When he returned, Haas said he found Damien face down in the tub; and he wasn’t breathing.
The Homicide Unit continued their investigation into Damien’s death and determined that the injuries he suffered were inconsistent with the account of events given to police by Haas.
An autopsy was conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the results of which were returned to police on July 8 indicating cause and manner of death to be multiple injuries and homicide. An autopsy revealed the boy’s bowels were torn and his pancreas was split in two pieces from the force used to inflict the injuries.
Haas was arrested on Tuesday, charged with First Degree Child Abuse Resulting in Death and First-Degree Murder. Following a bail review hearing yesterday, he is held on no bond status at the Baltimore County Detention Center pending trial.

Why or why do women repeatedly leave their babies and kids with ‘boyfriends.’ Baby rapists and baby killers are on the lowest rung of the prison ladder – I imagine that this hideous punk will get what he gave that dead baby in prison. Mom should also be charged for neglect. You never leave a 2 year old with anyone – ever – except maybe with your own mother – that is if she was a good mom. Otherwise – no. You have them, take care of them!
