The gruesome discovery was confirmed on Friday afternoon after police received a call regarding a suspicious bag found on the beach.  Another bag was recovered from the water.

Officers responded to a park along Elliott Bay, on a point across from the city’s main waterfront and Pike Place Market, after someone reported a “suspicious bag on the beach,” the department said.  ~ MSN

Once the contents of those bags were determined to be human remains, detectives responded to the area and began their investigation.  Harbor Patrol is assisting on the call, and detectives will work closely with the King County Medical Examiner’s Office as the investigation proceeds.

Affiliate KOMO said the initial call reported a foul odor coming from the bag. Another bag was found in the water.

There was a police boat and an inflatable boat and they had a hook and they took black plastic bags out,” Steven Buty, who lives near the beach, told KOMO. “I saw them take two bags.” ~ CNN

Police say that this is an active and on-going investigation.  For more on the strange news, see the video accompanying this article.
