Baltimore’s ‘dual-threat’ Lamar Jackson breaks the NFL’s Quarterback Rushing Record
The beloved Baltimore Ravens’ Lamar Demeatrice Jackson Jr. solidified his name in the NFL history books yesterday by breaking the all-time NFL quarterback rushing record. The 27-year-old Jackson reached this latest milestone yesterday during the game the Ravens played against the Houston Texans on Christmas Day 2024 – a game dominated from the very beginning – with a final score of Ravens 31 – Texans 2.
Lamar Jackson surpassed the previous QB rushing record held by Michael Vick, who had amassed 6,109 rushing yards over his 13-season career, according to The Associated Press. Vick played for the Atlanta Falcons and the Philadelphia Eagles before retiring in 2017.

Jackson’s record-breaking moment came in the third quarter with a 6-yard run in the game’s third quarter, pushing his career total to 6,110 yards. This achievement is particularly noteworthy considering he reached this milestone in just his seventh season and 102nd game, compared to Vick’s 13 seasons and 143 games.
“It feels unreal, to be honest with you,” Jackson said. “I just give God all the glory. I’m grateful, man, because that’s a record that’s been held for a long time with Michael Vick, one of my favorite players. That’s just dope.” ~ BaltimoreRavens.com
This “dual-threat capability” of being a quarterback who could run the ball – and run the ball well – has made Jackson one of the most formidable quarterbacks in the league.
Jackson played college ball for the Louisville Cardinals, winning the Heisman Trophy in 2016. Baltimore chose him as their final pick in the 2018 NFL draft. He went on to be the Ravens’ starting QB after Joe Flacco got injured. He went on to clinch a division title with the team and became the youngest NFL quarterback to start a playoff game at age 21, according to NFL.com.
