Bears’ Javon Wims suspended for punching C.J. Gardner-Johnson during game with Saints
Javon Wims, the Chicago Bears’ 26-year-old wide receiver, has been suspended without pay for two games for violations of unsportsmanlike conduct rules in Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints.
The announcement came down on Monday evening from NFL Vice President of Football Operations Jon Runyan, who issued the suspension for a violation of Rule 12, Section 2, Article 14(c) which prohibits striking, swinging at, or clubbing the head, neck, or face of an opponent with the wrist(s), arm(s), elbow(s), or hand(s), as well as Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1 which prohibits any act which is contrary to the generally understood principles of sportsmanship.
Basically, Wims got busted for punching New Orleans Saints’ safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson during the game.
… the fight seemingly began when Gardner-Johnson snatched Wims’ mouthguard from his facemask after the two exchanged words. Wims had to wait about 11 minutes to retaliate after being subbed out.

Yahoo! Sports reported that following the game on Sunday, Gardner-Johnson taunted Wims on social media – after the Saints’ victory over the Bears, tweeting, “That man punch like a female.”
Wims will be eligible to return to the Bears’ active roster on Tuesday, November 17, following the team’s November 16 game against the Minnesota Vikings.
Wims is expected to appeal his suspension.
After Wims and Gardner-Johnson got into it, other members from the Bears’ and Saints’ teams started swinging. You can check out the melee from Sunday’s game in the video below.
